LLC Tax ReturnQuestions while the pen is up
These are the questions owners ask when a PDF is open and the signature line is still blank. They are written here so you can arrive with a sharper one.
Which form number should be on page one
It depends on the treatment, not on the letters LLC in the name. With a single owner and no accepted election, the activity generally shows up on the return that owner already files for everything else. More than one owner, with no accepted election, usually means a partnership form. An S election and a C election have their own company returns. The number is printed at the top of page one. If you cannot find a number, you may be holding a worksheet.
Put the printed number in the note when you can see it. If the number and the treatment you remember disagree, say both. The disagreement is the useful part. We stop a signature when those two do not match, because the rest of the return is built on the number.
What am I promising when I authorize e-file
You are saying the return is true, correct, and complete to the best of your knowledge, and you are allowing it to be transmitted. You are not saying you prepared it. You are not saying a lender will accept it. You are not filing every state report that might exist. Where a state has its own filing, that filing has its own signature.
Match the authorization's year and return type to the return. A prior-year authorization attached by habit does not cover this year. If a PIN is filled in and you did not choose it, ask before you sign.
Why would the filename and the form disagree
Because a person named the file and a form number was printed by the form. Extensions, drafts, worksheets, and prior-year copies all get hopeful names. Open page one. If the form number is an extension, you have more time or you asked for it. You do not have a filed return.
Write both strings down and send them. You do not have to explain the sender's folder system. The two strings are the diagnosis.
Does the federal return file everything else
No. The federal return files the federal return. Estimates are separate vouchers. Payroll filings belong to the provider you run. State reports, in states that have them, are separate signatures on their own calendars. A calm federal acceptance letter does not close those other files.
If a notice arrived from an agency, it is its own job. Read the notice before you assume it is about the return you just signed. Some notices are a payment that did not match a voucher. We can tell those apart on a call.
What if the return is already under exam
Tell us at the start. An exam or an appeal needs a representative, and that role is not one this practice takes. What we can do is help gather the records the notice lists and put them in the order the notice asks for. That boundary is written on the disclosures page, and it does not move because a deadline is close.
If the exam is about a year we did not prepare, we can still read the form that was filed and say what it claimed. Reading is not representing. If what you need is representation, we will say that on the first call.
Ask about a form number
You will be talking to the Steven Palmieri practice.
