LLC Tax ReturnMonths, then the form

A return should be a stack of months someone already closed. A year-end download is a pile of unnamed movements wearing a form number.

What a month has to contain

A closed month can name every deposit. A sale, a loan, a transfer from your other account, a refund. Those are not the same event, and a bank feed will happily call all of them income when the memo is blank. The close is the pass that refuses the bad names.

Charges get the same treatment. A supplier bill, money moved to yourself, a tax payment, and a card charge that belongs in a different month each need their own name. The balance sheet then has to agree. Cash matches the reconciliation. Loans match the statements. Equity should move only when you put money in, take money out, or book the profit the treatment recognizes. If the sheet only balances because a suspense account grew, the month is still open.

Checks that have not cleared stay on a dated list until they clear or you void them. A February check that never cleared is either still out or void. Hiding it inside a plug makes the next month a guess, and the return later treats the guess as a fact. That dated list stays in the folder next to the reconciliation.

How the months become the return

At the end of the year the months are added, and the book totals are mapped to the lines of whichever form the treatment requires. A book account and a tax line are not always the same width. Meals, depreciation, and owner pay are the usual places they differ. The map is written down, so a line on the return can be pointed at on a statement.

Equity has to roll. Start with last year's ending balance, add what you put in, subtract what you took out, add the profit, and land on this year's ending balance. When that sentence fails, the return is not finished. Software will still print a PDF. The PDF is not the test. The roll is the test.

We will not prepare that PDF from an export on the night of the deadline. We sit with you on one recent month and walk the same naming backward only while the statements still support each name. A year that cannot be supported stays unfiled until it can, or it is filed with the gaps named. We will say which, before you sign.

Why the habit matters more than the heroics

A close that happens while the receipt is still in the week it was paid is a check. Closing the year in the same week the form is due means rebuilding the year from memory. That rebuild feels productive and it invents. The person doing it is tired, and the bank is a year away from the memory of the charge.

The same close date each month is the whole trick. It does not have to be glamorous. It has to be the same day, so the unnamed deposit is one month old instead of eleven. The return then becomes a summary you have already seen, which is the only kind of summary a signer should be asked to promise is true.

Write the newest month you actually trust, even when that month feels embarrassingly old. Honesty changes the length of the work. It does not change the method. A trustworthy March beats a December that was invented to look finished.

Which month is still open

You will be talking to the Steven Palmieri practice.
